Loves

My wife, and my two orange tabby boys—who are as orange tabby as it gets. I love landscaping and working with wood; I built a chicken coop, a deck, and a shed. The next project is a greenhouse for my wife and a floating dock.

Whenever I can, I just sit and watch my rooster, my chickens, the geese families raising their goslings in front of our place, and the wild birds we feed—who definitely tell their friends to stop by, considering how much bird food we go through.

It’s the best time—being with all of them. I love working for and with animals. One day, I’ll probably get severely injured trying to hug Godzilla.

Most Memorable Pet

Anchovi—he was my first pet, and I was already 27. He taught me how to care for an animal and patiently went through the whole learning process with me. I never knew how much I would love him.

He is the reason I wanted to work in animal rescue and in the veterinary field. Six years ago, we moved from Germany to the United States for him. He had started getting arthritis and couldn’t walk all the stairs to our apartment. So we had to move—and we thought, why not move to another continent?

Little-Known Fact About Me

I was trained in equestrian vaulting when I was a teenager.

Motto

Into the woods I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.
